Circular references in excel
A circular reference occurs in Excel when a formula directly or indirectly refers to its own cell, creating a loop that Excel cannot resolve. This can happen intentionally or by mistake.
How It Happens
Direct Circular Reference: A formula in a cell refers to the cell itself. For example, if cell A1 contains the formula =A1 + 1, it’s a direct circular reference.
Indirect Circular Reference: A formula in one cell depends on another cell, which in turn depends on the first cell. For example:
Cell A1: =B1 + 1
Cell B1: =A1 + 2
