Database Mail is feature which enables SQL Server to send e-mail using the standard Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). We can also specify more than one SMTP server, so if one SMTP server goes down, Database Mail can still process mail. Additionally, Database Mail is scalable because it uses the Service Broker queue, which allows the request to be handled asynchronously and even saves the request if the server goes down before it can be handled.
