LMMS Sidechain Compression Tutorial

If you have a Melody and loud Kick which is overwhelming a track, you can use Sidechain Compression to fix this. Sidechain Compression basically lowers the volume of the Lead when the Kick plays. I found 2 ways to do Sidechain Compression in LMMS.

► Peak Controller Method
Put Kick in FX channel 1, Melody in FX channel 2
Click FX channel 1 and click "Add Effect"
Type "Peak" and select "Peak Controller"
Change to AMT to "-0.30"
Right-click on the volume slider of FX channel 2 and click "Connect to Controller"
Click the "User Controller" dot and make sure it is set to "Controller 1"
Now the lead will duck out of the way when the Kick plays

► CALF Compressor Method
Pan Kick right and Lead Left
Put both in same FX channel
Click "Add Effect" and type "Compressor"
Select "LADSPA Effect: Calf Compressor LADSPA"
Change ratio to 10 and Stereo Link to 1
Click "Add Effect" again and type "Stereo"
Click "Add Effect" again and type "Stereophonic Matrix"
Change all dials to 0.5

► Cool Effect
Change "Left to Left" and "Left to Right" to 1
Change "Right to Right" and "Right to Left" to 0
This will remove kick but keep pulsing
