Auto-scaling is a must ability when it comes to the functionality of a Cloud. OpenStack, a software package providing a cloud platform for Public and Private cloud, already provides multiple methods to auto-scale virtual machines with Heat, Telemetry. However, most projects within OpenStack Telemetry, the main stack involves in the evaluation process whether an auto-scale is needed, are either lack of contribution or malfunctioning. In this session, we will focus on pointing out the obstacles while auto-scaling with OpenStack, how we leverage their architecture to reduce operating efforts in Viettel, the largest telco in Vietnam. We also introduce a new tool Faythe, an open-sourced software we built ourselves, working as a bridge between any Cloud platform to any monitoring system, Prometheus at the moment. Auto-scaling becomes creating rules with powerful functional query language called PromQL.
