🚀 GitHub just made Copilot Cloud Agent way more powerful and flexible!
You can now use it to *research, plan, and make code changes directly* — no need to open a pull request first. Full end-to-end workflow inside the agent.
This official demo from @github (April 6, 2026) shows the new freedom: the Cloud Agent can now explore your codebase, create a plan, and push real changes straight to your branch or repo without forcing you into a PR workflow. Perfect for rapid experimentation, bug fixes, and iteration.
Key upgrades in Copilot Cloud Agent:
• Research mode — digs through your code, docs, and context
• Intelligent planning — creates step-by-step plans before touching code
• Direct code changes — edits files and commits without PR gatekeeping
• Still fully reviewable — you keep full control and visibility
This removes the last major friction for teams that want speed while staying safe. Great for solo devs, small teams, and anyone who hates “PR for everything.”
How to use the new flexible Cloud Agent right now:
1. Open your GitHub repo with Copilot enabled
2. Start a new Cloud Agent session
3. Give it a task — it will research → plan → execute changes directly
4. Review and merge when ready
