In this video, we dive into one of PostgreSQL’s most powerful features: Foreign Data Wrapper. You’ll learn how to connect multiple PostgreSQL servers, access tables across different databases, and build a simple distributed database architecture on a Windows environment.
We start by setting up two independent PostgreSQL clusters—one for HR and one for Payroll—each running on its own port. Then, we use PostgreSQL’s Foreign Data Wrapper feature to create a live bridge between these servers, allowing data to be shared and queried in real time.
0:00 – Introduction & What We’ll Build
0:09 – Creating PostgreSQL Clusters & Configuration
2:34 – pgAdmin Setup & Foreign Data Wrapper Configuration
6:42 – Connecting to PostgreSQL with Python
8:03 – Free Courses & Next Steps
After configuring the database side, we take it a step further by connecting to both clusters using Python. You’ll see how to run SELECT queries directly on the source database and how to access remote data transparently through foreign tables.
