iOS (previously iPhone OS) is a handheld OS developed and broadcast by Apple Inc.
Originally unveiled in 2007 for the iPhone, it's been extended to guide other Apple devices like the Ipod Itouch (September 2007), I-pad (January 2010), iPad Mini (November 2012) and 2nd-era Apple Television on (September 2010). Unlike Microsoft's Windows Phone and Google's Android, Apple will not license iOS for installation on non-Apple hardware.

By October 2013, Apple's App Store comprised more than 1 million iOS applications, 500,000 which were optimized for I-pad. These programs have jointly been downloaded more than 60 billion instances.
