Simplifying Complex Data Processing with Python and Pandas: Step-by-Step Tutorial
In this video, I share how I use Python and Pandas to process complex data for visualization. I'm not an expert in Python, but I'm learning techniques to handle and transform data that isn't readily available in a usable format for visualization tools like Tableau.
Recently, the Reserve Bank of India released the Handbook of Statistics on the Indian Economy 2023-2024, which contains valuable time series data. However, the data is structured in a complex way, with multiple blocks for each state and union territory.
In this tutorial, I walk you through how to convert this complex Excel file into a clean, simple format that's easy to visualize. We'll cover:
1. Reading the Excel file into a DataFrame
2. Dropping null columns and rows
3. Filling missing values with appropriate data
4. Identifying the start of each data block (state data)
5. Splitting the DataFrame into individual blocks
6. Processing each block individually using Python and Pandas
7. Merging the processed blocks into a single DataFrame
8. Preparing the data for visualization in Tableau or other tools
