Cloud Arbitrage
A team of Duke students worked with the Office of Information Technology and Duke Research computing to develop analytic tools and predictive models to help decide if it is worthwhile to run large computing jobs on the Amazon or Microsoft cloud service spot market instances or to process jobs locally on the Duke Compute Cluster’s scavenger instances. The cloud arbitrage dashboard can help inform (and potentially automate) cloud-busting large scale compute jobs and arbitrage the cloud compute spot market. The analytic tools would look at historic and up-to-the minute market trends to model likely market behavior.
