Can Claude Code Build an Entire E-Learning Course?
Can you actually build a full custom e-learning course with Claude Code from start to finish? In this update, I walk through my course Creating Custom E-Learning with Claude and show exactly how it comes together using Claude Design for the initial layout and Claude Code for the heavy lifting.
The process starts in Claude Design, where we sketch out page types and visual structure before moving into Claude Code to build the real functionality. From there we cover GitHub for version backups (essential once AI starts editing your files), structuring content in JSON so it stays separate from your visuals, and why that separation makes translation and localization so much easier — including having Claude handle the initial translation pass.
You'll see the finished course in action: a responsive player with progress tracking, multiple quiz types (multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, drag and drop, dropdown, true/false), flip cards, tab interactions, accordions, carousels, modals, and a course that automatically detects and switches the learner's language based on their browser settings.
This isn't a replacement for Storyline, Rise, or Captivate — it's another tool for your kit. When a project calls for something fully custom that existing authoring tools can't deliver, this workflow gets you there, and the foundation you build is reusable across future courses instead of starting from scratch every time.
Heads up: this style of development takes real time investment — think hours, not minutes — and it works best when you treat yourself as the director guiding the output, not someone expecting AI to do it all unsupervised.
