Migrate Data from Oracle to SQL Server Using .net Pipelines - Example
In this episode, we’re going to explore how to build a data pipeline between data servers of different types. Our example will demonstrate a simple pipeline from Oracle 11g to SQL Server 2017, using a .Net console application and some ADO.Net objects. We’ll use both ODBC and SqlClient to demonstrate middleware connectivity that will facilitate our pipeline.
For data engineers, building solid data pipelines is critical for bringing data from many diverse databases into one database (ie. a data warehouse) for analysis and data science purposes. In most cases, this work will not only migrate the data, but also perform many Transform operations at the same time, to prepare data for consumption by analytics users.
This example will use VB.Net, but can be performed in a similar manner in C#, using the same set of objects and methods. You can also perform this in Python and other languages.
