Making a Simple Map using Google Earth
In this video, you will learn how you can utilize the map making capabilities of Google Earth Pro to create a simple map layout.
During this tutorial, you will also learn how to import files that are in different file formats such as ESRI Shapefiles into Google Earth, how to add placemarks to indicate certain point locations on the map and how to digitize roads and pathways. Furthermore, this tutorial will introduce you to different styling techniques available in Google Earth that can be applied to geometrical objects as well as texts.
Finally, you will learn how to add standard components such as a scale bar, a north arrow, a legend and a title to your map before exporting the map into a JPEG image.
However, it should be noted that Google Earth’s map making capabilities can be somewhat limited when it comes to creating advanced vibrant maps and you may certainly not be able to match the sophisticated map making functionalities offered by dedicated GIS software packages such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
But, it certainly is a handy tool especially if you are an inexperienced GIS user and if you want to create a map without spending much time dabbling in advanced GIS software packages.
