What is DevOps?
DevOps is an extremely important role in Software Engineering, however many only know it as a buzzword, and there are not many straightforward definitions of DevOps online. This video not only provides a simple definition of DevOps, it provides an intuitive explanation of how DevOps works alongside a practical insight into the day in the life of a DevOps engineer.
DevOps is a solution to a process anyone who writes software has to experience: the Software Delivery Lifecycle (SDL). Once a coder (more formally: Application Developer) finishes writing code, she must consider how the code will be made available to people. DevOps Engineers exist to lift this load off the developer by providing the developer a platform to deploy their code that ensures high quality code and high quality deployment. An example of a high quality deployment is a multi-region deployment of a project. Imagine you're an application developer writing an application meant to be deployed across the globe and you DON'T have quality automation for doing this – it'd almost make you not want to code.
This short also disambiguates CI/CD, and puts into perspective where other software buzzwords like GitHub, Kubernetes, and Artifactory exist in relation to coding.
