A two-dimensional array in C is an array of arrays organized as matrices, representing a collection of rows and columns. These arrays are created to implement a relational database-like data structure. To declare a two-dimensional array in C, use the syntax: data_type array_name[rows][columns];. In 1D arrays, the size of the array must be specified, but 2D arrays require defining at least the second dimension. Elements in two-dimensional arrays are referred to by x[i][j], where 'i' is the row number and 'j' is the column number.
A two-dimensional array can also be used to store objects, which is especially convenient for programming sketches that involve some sort of "grid" or "board."
