Deep work is when you focus on one thing for a considerable amount of time. When you have a lot of things on your plate and a lot of distractions, it might seem as if giving each a little bit of attention will accomplish more. This type of work also gives you the feeling of feeling productive when in fact you are not accomplishing much. The term comes from a book by Cal Newport, and he describes shallow work as "Responding to emails, texts, and the like brings little significant, meaningful value to the work at hand. Therefore, constantly having to stop working to respond to these notifications prevents you from achieving your peak work performance, which takes a toll both on the quality and efficiency of your work."
Deep work as "Meanwhile, developing an effective business strategy, writing a proposal, preparing for a presentation, and analyzing complex data to optimize your business are all examples of deep work. Each of these instances requires a certain level of uninterrupted focus to produce your best work while optimizing your time and turnover per project."
Perhaps my favorite quote about deep work I found while researching is that "deep work is a superpower."
Deep work provides a high-output value, it's a scarce skill, it gives a competitive advantage and can aide in a feeling of fulfillment.
This field is designed to give and expand on your capacity to work deeply. One of the first things this field will do is balance dopamine levels. This field will help on to achieve deep states of focus quickly and for a sustained about of time, without periods of burnout. It will help one find and maintain flow states even in tasks that might not be as exciting to accomplish on the onset. Gaining a skill, like coding for example, can require hours of deliberate practice, but might not initially feel rewarding.
The other aspect of this field is to be able to have patience and creativity. To remove distractions where possible and be able to focus beyond them when the ability to limit them is not yet possible.
Like all my fields it is intuitive by nature to work with you to help you achieve profound things on this Earth. Because ultimately that is what the skill of deep work aims to provide.
Maybe the world seems far from what could be, but we don't see all the people working to create what can be. We only see what was created in the past. With all of us working towards our dreams there's no limit to what we can achieve as a species.
The personal nature of my fields means that whatever is blocking you from achieving your goals, the field can work through in an individual manner.
