In this Webinar, Dr. Richard Martin from Strathclyde University, talks about HPC (High-performance computing) using Cendio ThinLinc.

Interactive High-Performance Computing using ThinLinc

Abstract
As HPC is accessed by an increasingly diverse user community, many workflows require GUI elements for pre/post processing and data visualisation. Command line only access can therefore inhibit effective use of HPC for many researchers. At ARCHIE-WeSt all front-end login nodes are remote-desktop and visualisation capable, with ThinLinc being the remote desktop software of choice. This provides users with the flexibility of ssh command line or robust and efficient graphical desktop access, with hardware accelerated OpenGL graphics for applications that require it. This presentation will provide an overview of how ThinLinc is deployed at ARCHIE-WeSt and the benefits of remote desktop technology for HPC, and how it has proved to be effective during recent months.

Short bio
Dr Richard Martin
High Performance Computing Manager, ARCHIE-WeSt, University of Strathclyde
Richard obtained his PhD in computational physics in 1997 and since then has supported research computing at the University of Strathclyde in a variety of roles. Since 2012 he has managed the ARCHIE-WeSt High Performance Computing Centre at the University of Strathclyde which has supported over 800 users, the majority of whom used HPC for the first time.

About ARCHIE-WeSt, University of Strathclyde
ARCHIE-WeStLenovo-HPC is a state-of-the art Research Computing Centre for the West of Scotland based at the University of Strathclyde which provides research Computing facilities to the University of Strathclyde and other Institutions primarily in the west of Scotland.
The aim of the centre is to support multi-disciplinary research, with a centre of gravity in engineering and physical sciences, while reaching out to other disciplines and to encourage and enable industrial usage and collaboration. (source https://www.archie-west.ac.uk/informa...)
