In this AI Research Roundup episode, Alex discusses the paper:
'MeshCoder: LLM-Powered Structured Mesh Code Generation from Point Clouds'
MeshCoder reconstructs editable 3D object programs directly from point clouds, surpassing prior DSL-limited shape-program methods. It introduces an expressive Blender Python API for complex geometry, a large-scale pipeline producing ~10M part point cloud–code pairs, and a multimodal LLM that outputs executable scripts decomposed into semantic parts. The model tokenizes point clouds via a triplane-based encoder and uses a finetuned Llama-3.2-1B (LoRA) to autoregress code. Object-level reconstruction leverages part decomposition and aggregation to build full, multi-part meshes.
