Use Python to iterate and improve gravity framing designs from Bentley RAM Structural Systems! An important part of a structural design is the repeatability of section sizes which, because of constructability concerns, is often more economical than many individual minimum sizes
Here is a Streamlit GUI that shows a way to optimize the process of finding an efficient column layout wrt gravity loads:
1. Columns are predesigned by the engineer to a comfortable minimum in RAM Structural Systems
2. The model information is output into a .db file and ingested into a pandas dataframe with SQLite
3. Specific column locations to be omitted are entered into the GUI (i.e. Brace frame columns)
4. Column information and design capacities are organized into a dataframe to be searched through where sizes for a column will not be below the predesigned model.
5. An objective function is created for a minimum weight and fed into a particle swarm optimization algorithm
6. The best performing group of sizes is shown for each grouping (i.e. 3 unique sizes vs 4 vs 5 vs etc.)
On this page of the site you can watch the video online Steel Column Section Size Grouping Optimization (RAM, Python, SQL, PSO) with a duration of hours minute second in good quality, which was uploaded by the user Eric 13 July 2023, share the link with friends and acquaintances, this video has already been watched 21 times on youtube and it was liked by 0 viewers.
