In this episode, we move beyond basic setup and learn how to configure Claude Code properly for real development workflows.
You’ll learn where Claude Code stores global configuration on your system, how to open and understand the settings.json file, and how to use the /config command directly inside a Claude Code session.
We’ll explore important configuration options like theme settings, Thinking Mode, and how changes made from the Claude Code CLI are immediately reflected in the global settings file.
Most importantly, we’ll look at Claude Code permissions. This is useful when you want to control what Claude Code can read, write, or execute inside your project. For example, you may want to deny access to environment files or other sensitive files that contain API keys, secrets, or private configuration.
We’ll also cover project-level configuration using a .claude folder inside your project. You’ll understand the difference between global settings, project settings, and local project settings, including when to use settings.json and settings.local.json.
