We have successfully connected to our MySQL database using PDO. Then we deliberately introduced errors into the connection parameters and found that informative messages are returned to the browser as to where the problem lies. This is useful at the development stage as it tells us what is wrong, but in production we want to hide this sensitive information and return a friendly custom message which simply says something is wrong without giving exact infomration about the problem.
We do this using try … catch.
