In HTML, the "target" attribute is used to specify where the linked document should open when a user clicks on a link. It can be set to various values such as "_blank" to open in a new window or tab, "_self" to open in the same window,

A target="_self" attribute value specifies that the target page will be opened in the same browser tab and window as the current page.

_self ------ Opens the linked document in the same frame as it was clicked (this is default)

The target attribute specifies where the linked page or form response will be opened.

The target="_self" value opens the page in the same tab, window, or frame as the current page.

By default, links are displayed in the same tab and window as the current page.

Therefore, omitting target="_self" has the same effect as including it.
