Elementary Programming Principles | Development of Algorithms
The word algorithm comes from the name of the 9th century Persian Mathematician, Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Musa al-Khwarizmi.
The word algorism originally referred only to the rules of performing arithmetic using Arabic numerals but evolved into algorithm by the 18th century. The word has now evolved to include all definite procedures for solving problems or performing tasks. Algorithm is therefore a precise and finite set of well-defined instructions that tells the computer what specific set of steps to perform and in what specific order, in order to carry out a specific task or solve a specific problem. Therefore, this video discusses the development of algorithms under the following aspects: Definition of algorithms, Data and data structures, Writing instructions, Comparison/selection/decision statements using Structure charts, Pseudocodes and Flow charts. In addition, this video discusses a number of case scenarios by giving examples of algorithms and translating them into sample Pascal Programs.
