WYOTAC LONGE RANGE PRECISION Rifle Course
In July 2022, Rob Pincus attended the Wyoming Tactical Long Range Precision Rifle Course in Crowheart, WY. The course was held at the Tactical Solutions International Facility and was three days long.

The class was taught by Jason Crotteau, who has significant training and teaching experiences in the field long range precision rifle as well as professional operational experience in security/executive protection roles. He has taught this material in several formats and settings, but this was his first 3 day open enrollment version. The students ranges from one who had literally no experience shooting a scoped rifle to students with decades of experiences and several courses under their belts. In the latter group were two respected gun-media veterans, Michael Bane and Kevin Creighton. Pincus has previously attended precision rifle courses taught by Col. Norm Chandler, Giles Stock, Todd Hodnett and others.
The 3 day course was primarily run on a range that offered a wide variety of shooting positions on targets from 200-600 yards. The majority of the targets were engaged from positions other than prone at distances between 300 and 600 yards. Once the students fundamentals were established/confirmed and rifle zeroes verified, students shot from tables, benches, tripods and from inside the 3 level tower for most each day. The targets primarily were between 10 and 18 inches wide and were 10-18 inches tall. There was one large 24x24 and another 18x18 target that were used for shooting at, and beyond, 1000 yards. The furthest shots of the course were at 1290 yards on the 18x18 in target, during the final afternoon.
The most challenging targets were set at just beyond 500 yards from the shooting tables on the main range. One exercise pitted students against one another on a 4" Dueling Tree, the kind normally engaged at 20-25 yards with pistols, the other was a series of very small "Know Your Limits" steel targets, going down to 2"x2", at the same distance.
Students also shot a paper version of "Know Your Limits" twice, with one shot being needed into 4 targets of decreasing size at 100 yards. The largest target in that exercise was a 1" square. It is worth mentioning that there was no "group shooting" during this course. Other than checking/confirming zero at 100 yards as needed, the exercises were almost all done on steel targets at varying distances and in varying positions. The class very much focused on APPLYING skills, not just isolated performance.
Only an hour or so on Day's 1 & 2 were spent in the classroom going over fundamentals of long range rifle shooting, including shooting positions, scope use and several other topics, including: quick lessons on MILs v MOAs, FFP v SFP, ranging targets, reading wind and typical Shooter/Spotter communications.
While the course was taught using a lot of Military Sniper type lingo and protocol, the applications to any student interested in precision rifle shooting for any purpose, including competition and hunting were clear.
The host facility (https://www.tacticalsolutionsintl.com) was outstanding and their staff supported WyoTac's class, with Trinity Reece serving as an AI and RSO throughout the weekend.
The course definitely allowed the students to develop a confidence in their ability to reliably engage targets at significant distances under a variety of circumstances with their rifles. Fundamentals were covered as needed and the Jason's knowledge base gave him the ability to answer questions thoroughly and address problems quickly. The course kept a good pace and featured a lot of variety to keep the students engaged. In addition to several timed drills, there were a couple of friendly competitive events as well. Day two started late in the morning and went until long after dark, giving students an opportunity to experience shooting targets with night vision and thermal optics, as well as their own equipment, under very-low-light conditions.
