Definition:
A rectangular matrix is a matrix that is rectangular in shape. We know that the elements of a matrix are arranged in rows and columns. If the number of rows in a matrix is not equal to the number of columns in it then the matrix is known as the rectangular matrix.

A rectangular matrix is a matrix in which the number of rows is NOT equal to the number of columns. In the same way, the number of rows of a rectangular matrix is different from the number of columns and hence the name "rectangular". The following is a rectangular matrix of order m x n (i.e., the number of rows = m and the number of columns = n).
