Codependency sure seems like a bad word these days. To be slapped with the label of "codependent" is to assume that there is something very wrong with you. Right? Wrong!
The real problem with codependency is not that you care so much about someone else. Caring is a superpower. The problem with codependency is that you care more about your partner than you do about yourself.
In any healthy relationship, both partners feel loved. Both partners feel respected, heard, and fulfilled. If you are sacrificing your own happiness and mental health for the sake of your partner, that is not a partnership at all. That is not a healthy relationship.
Codependency recovery requires that you recognize that you are putting someone else's needs ahead of your own and repossessing yourself and your self-respect for healthier, happier relationships.
