The type or data type or a variable determines a set of values that a variable might take and a set of operations that can be applied to those values. Data types can be broadly classified as

Primitive/Basic Data Type
Derived Data Type
User-defined Data Type
Valueless

C Provides a standard, minimal set pf basic data types. Sometimes these are called 'primitive' types. More complex data types an be built up from these basic types. C has five basic data types and they are as follows:

1. char
2. int
3. float
4. double

It may seem odd to many, how C programmers manage with such a tiny set of data type ?
