Graphical interpolation can be used to interpolate between a number of synthesizer presets to create new sounds. A number of different visual models exist for this form of interpolation. However, the visuals usually relate the to the interpolation model and not to the sound being generated. The Star Interpolator visualization tries to resolve this issue by providing a visual representation of the parameters being interpolated. Each parameter value is shown as a weighted beam within a star plot. Star plots are shown for the preset locations and also as the interpolation cursor. In this way as the cursor is moved the parameter values can be seen to change real-time. This video shows an example of the full interface Star Interpolator visualization with a generalized IDW model (Shepherd 1968). This interpolator has been implemented in C'74 Max environment and all audio outputs are generated with NI Massive. In this example the interpolation is being performed on eighteen of the synthesis parameter, but selected parameters can be changed by the user.
