The CALCULATE function in DAX can be simple on the surface, but it behaves in very specific ways depending on how you use filters. In this video, I’ll take you through five practical examples that show how CALCULATE actually works, especially when you're dealing with static filters, time-based calculations, alternate relationships and context transition.
Along the way, we’ll also look at functions like KEEPFILTERS, SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR, DATESBETWEEN, USERELATIONSHIP and how CALCULATE triggers context transition. If your DAX numbers sometimes don’t make sense or totals look off, chances are CALCULATE is behaving exactly as it should; you just need to know how.
