Topnode is a TCL function, with no python equivalent (because it's kinda trivial to write pretty much) so it's possibly something worthwhile as an exercise, it also lets me talk a little about recursion. Warning, me trying to explain recursion without being in person with bits of paper is not as effective as I'd hoped. Sorry! :(
