After creating video files with screen capture applications such as Camstudio or FRAPS, you may notice that the video files are quite large (e.g. 10+MB per minute) . In order to reduce the file size, it is necessary to use a 'transcoder' or a program which is specifically designed to re-code a video file according to differing parameters such as codec, file type, bitrate, framerate, picture size etc..
MediaCoder is an opensource (free) program for this purpose and is well loved by video enthusiasts. However, it isn't a program that you have great results with the first few times you try it out. Since there are a lot of sophisticated settings to configure, you will need to do some basic research and 'trial and error'.
