How To Find Missing WordPress Posts Using MyPHP and SQL Databases

I had a theme that kept some of my postings in a separate thread away from the normal WordPress "Posts" and "Pages." When I changed out my theme I lost access to those posts. Let me show you how you can recover that type of content using your WordPress SQL database.

If you’re having trouble finding missing WordPress posts, here are some steps to help locate and recover them:

Check the Trash

Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard.

Go to Posts:

Click on "Posts" in the left-hand menu.

Click on "Trash" at the top of the posts list.

Restore Posts:

If you find the missing posts here, you can restore them by selecting the post and clicking "Restore."

Search for Posts

Use the Search Function:

In the WordPress dashboard, use the search bar at the top of the "Posts" page to search for the title or content of the missing post.

Check Post Status

Filter by Status:

In the "Posts" section, use the filter options to check if the posts are set to a different status (e.g., Draft, Pending Review, Private) rather than Published.

Review Post Categories and Tags

Check Categories and Tags:

Sometimes posts may not appear where expected if they are assigned to a different category or tag. Check the categories and tags assigned to the posts.

Check for Plugins or Theme Issues

Deactivate Plugins:

Temporarily deactivate all plugins to see if the issue is related to a plugin conflict. Reactivate them one by one to identify the culprit.

Switch Themes:

Switch to a default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty-Three) to check if the issue is related to your current theme.

Review User Roles and Permissions

Check User Roles:

Ensure that you have the correct permissions to view all posts. Check user roles and capabilities in the WordPress dashboard under "Users."

Database Check

Use phpMyAdmin or a Database Tool:

Access your WordPress database using phpMyAdmin or a similar tool. Check the wp_posts table to see if the missing posts are listed.

Run a Database Repair:

You can use the WordPress database repair tool by adding define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true); to your wp-config.php file and visiting http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/maint/....

Check Backups

Restore from Backup:

If you have backups of your WordPress site, you can restore the posts from a backup.

Search the Site

Use a Search Plugin:

Install a search plugin to ensure that the missing posts are not being excluded from search results.

Consult Logs and Support

Review Error Logs:

Check your server error logs for any issues related to missing posts.

If you’re unable to find the posts, contact your hosting provider for assistance, as there may be server-related issues.
