Half, Offset, Revolved, & Removed Sections
In this video, I continue my lesson on technical drawing by covering various types of sectional views, starting with a Half Section [00:39], which is a powerful way to show both the exterior shape and the interior details of a part on a single view. Next, I explain the Offset Section [01:57], which is essential when a cutting plane needs to jog to pass through several non-aligned features, such as multiple holes, to ensure those features are accurately represented in the section view. Crucially, I discuss the convention for sectioning webs and ribs [08:14], demonstrating that we avoid sectioning a web when the cutting plane runs along its length to prevent the drawing from falsely implying the part is a single, solid block of material. Finally, I compare the Revolved Section [11:31], where the cross-section is rotated in place, with the Removed Section [15:19], where the cross-section is moved to a new, clearer location on the drawing, before briefly covering the use of Breaks [18:26] to shorten views of long objects.
