Programming is NOT Easy!
Welcome to Episode Five of my weekly series! This was a REALLY fun episode to record. We started off with chainsaws and fire, then somehow segued into talking about how programming is NOT easy, despite what some people might say. To understand why many programmers think they're experts when they're just starting out (they think programming is easy), we can take a look at the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
I also touch on how turning your hobby into your profession may not have the desired outcome you expected. For many, it turns their passion into a job. Instead of working for fun, they're working for pay, and not enjoying programming as a profession as much as they did when it was a hobby.
