Since the military has abandoned the MRAP for a more suitable design there has been a good supply of armored vehicles available to Law Enforcement agencies who are searching for ways to protect their SWAT officers and for rescues of downed officers and civilians in active shooter scenarios. The typical armored police vehicle costs well over 200K and most of the time, surplus military armor is worn out and unreliable when released to police departments. The MRAP program is fairly new and most of the trucks available have been completely rebuilt and are in new condition. The cost to the agency is usually around $3000. The question is often asked as to just what kind of projectile can be stopped by the inch thick base armor of the MRAP. Here we try 3 different calibers of Armor piercing ammo on the passenger compartment of the vehicle. As a follow up I also shoot standard 50 BMG ball and a Hornady AMAX match bullet into the glass.
