Day 1 on our journey to teach yourself test automation start with install and configure of Java. Our automation tool of choice is Selenium webdriver with java

How do you go about downloading java? Do a google search with phrase 'Java JDK Download' and in the search results select - Java SE - downloads| oracle technology network, this should take you to the Oracle official website https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/ja...

You are presented wit two versions of Java, the recent and slightly older version. The advise always is to go for the older version as hopefully all issues will have been ironed out, current version when recording this video is V191

Click on the download button next and you will be take to the next page in Oracle website where you can download the Java .exe file which is compatible with your operating system of your laptop or PC https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/ja...

Download the .exe file which is next to the OS my laptop runs windowsx64 so i will go ahead and downloaded .exe file next to windowsx64

Just follow the download instructions on screen as you get them and yu should be fine.

To check if Java is successfully downloaded onto you machine access your c: drive and program files, within the programs file if you see a Java file then you have successfully down loaded Java onto you PC

When selenium runs on your PC when it comes to executing automation test cases it will look at the system variables to see if Java is indeed present on your PC, so we need to configure the system variables they are pointing to where Java is located on your c: drive. Follow the configure process on my blog and video

After configure of system variables you need to check they are all set up correctly and are pointing to the correct location of Java version on your PC. Run command prompt cmd - and type in 'Java -version' and click enter.

In you command prompt window the should be reference to the correct version of java you just downloaded onto your PC v.191 in my case
