How do you monitor convergence in your CFD simulations?

Residuals dropping below 1e-4 and call it converged? We've all been there. But residuals alone can be misleading, especially in cases with complex mixing or thermal gradients.

For this mixing elbow case (hot and cold streams, as simple as it gets), I set up a Python-based monitoring pipeline in PyFluent to track what actually matters physically:
•Mean and max temperature at the outlet
•Mass-flow-averaged temperature uniformity index at key cross-sections along the main pipe using parametric length coordinates (0 to 1)
•All quantities and images exported automatically at each iteration

The result? You can actually see your solution converging toward a physically meaningful state, not just watch numbers drop on a log scale.

Setting this up was straightforward with Python: a few lines to define the report definitions, configure the monitors, export everything cleanly, and generate the video you are watching. No manual clicks, fully reproducible.
