In this GameGuru Max tutorial, we break down the Player Mode behavior and explore how to dynamically enable or disable core player abilities in your game.
With Player Mode, you can toggle Run, Jump, Flashlight, and Weapons on or off when triggered, giving you powerful control over pacing, challenge, and player experience.
In the demo scene, I built a platformer-style challenge where the player must choose between losing the ability to run or losing the ability to jump before tackling the next obstacle set, forcing meaningful gameplay decisions. But that’s just the beginning!
This behavior could also be perfect for stealth sections where weapons are disabled, horror moments where the flashlight fails, cutscene transitions that restrict movement, prison or capture scenarios, stamina-based challenge modes, or scripted story beats that temporarily change how the game feels.
If you want tighter control over player agency and smarter level design in GameGuru Max, this tutorial will show you exactly how to use Player Mode to make it happen.
