Welcome to #cybertiptuesday ! Today we explore that little s that secures your website when you go from http to https. The S stands for secure and it means that the site you are visiting has been protected with an SSL certificate. SSL is a protocol that encrypts the data that is exchanged between a site and a visitor therefore preventing eavesdroppers from 'listening' to your conversation.
When sites aren't secure, a hacker can utilize the Man-in-the-Middle approach by placing themselves between you and the site and easily read the data being exchange. They can even hijack the conversation and ask you for data that the site really isn't requiring. By rule of thumb, all sites should be secured with an SSL but especially sites that request protected info like credit card information. #https #protectyoursite
