This video breaks down a workflow I’ve been using in After Effects to generate large batches of animated posters. The idea: design one flexible poster template, prepare a CSV with your variables, and let a script create all the comps for you.

I’ll walk through how the script works, how to structure the template, and how to organize your data so AE can build everything automatically. It’s equal parts design system, automation, and a little motion-nerd joy.

If you’ve ever needed dozens of variations — titles, colors, dates, layouts — this workflow keeps things consistent without removing the creative decisions that matter. The generated comps are still editable allowing you to make any changes on the backend.

One template → many outcomes

This script was developed as part of a university class I teach which aims to allow students to explore the intersection of design and technology. References to "poster machine project" are meant for my students as this video is originally filmed as a tutorial for them.
