Part Two... Photoshop

Matte (or fade or film look, however you would like to call it) is a very trendy look right now. The matte look is one that many old film images had because of the type of film. Today’s modern digital cameras don’t really give the same look, but sometimes a matte look can just take an image to the next level. There are TONS of presets out there that have matte finishes, purporting to mimic a variety of film substrates.

Broadly, we can categorize the effects into three types – Hazy, Black or Coloured (Vintage / VSCO). In these two videos, I am going to show you how to add these effects in both Lightroom and in Photoshop. One thing about doing this work in Photoshop is that you can more easily stack the effects and brush effects off (and while typing this I realize that I didn’t demonstrate this, but you just use the layer mask. If you’re unsure how, please check out my course.)
