GIS Python Tutorial: Gentle Introduction to VS Code and Python Computer Programming

Class is in session! In this video, I'll give you a gentle introduction to the Visual Studio (VS) code computer programming environment as well as a gentle introduction to the Python computer programming language.

Specifically, I'll show you how to download Python onto your computer and then connect Python into the VS Code programming using a Python extension that is freely available.

I'll then review and so some hands-on coding examples of some general computer programming concepts such as variables, operators, lists, and for loops that are the basis for many computer programming tasks in Python and other computer programming languages.

If you are brand new to computer programming and have an interest in learning Python, this video will get you started with some of the most fundamental tools you'll need that you can expanded upon in many directions such as use with the ArcPy Python libraries of ArcGIS Pro.

This tutorial was recorded during one of my lectures at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
