  / cloudwolfaws   Here is a tutorial for AWS on how multi-factor authentication works. When a user wants to access his or her account, a password is needed but that alone can be hacked or stolen so MFA provides additional layers of security.

SUMMARY:
-Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an additional layer of security to your AWS account by requiring a secondary authentication method in addition to a password
Password= something that you know
MFA Device= something that you have
Even if someone gains access to one of these (Password or MFA Device), they won’t be able to log in without the other
MFA can be enabled on the Root Account and any IAM Users as required
AWS supports a variety of MFA devices
Hardware MFA devices are created by 3rd parties, not AWS
