Obsidian is an application for working with knowledge bases. What is a knowledge base? Essentially, it's a brain that structures all the information you receive. Obsidian does roughly the same thing.
Technically, Obsidian is a shell for working with Markdown files, and this is its main advantage. Markdown is a lightweight document markup language that isn't tied to any one program or application, meaning you can open these documents anywhere. It's just that working with them in Obsidian is more convenient than in other programs.
Therefore, unlike with proprietary software, with Obsidian you're not tied to a specific developer. You can store your database anywhere, and no matter what happens in the country or the world, you won't lose it, unless it's your own fault.
