Text Features
For the content of my Powtoon video I decided to focus on text features. I chose this because it is a standard that I teach to in 2nd grade. There was a silent title slide, and each following slide focused on one or two text features that included: pictures, headings, bold print, maps, graphs, diagrams, bullet points, and captions. In making the video I used the personalization principles. The first principle was to use a conversational style in my narration. I used the pronouns “you” and “us” to give it a personal and familiar feel and tried to use expression in my tone. The second principle was to use informal wording. My audience is fairly young, so the terminology used was friendly and not complicated. I also incorporated the embodiment principle by using an online agent on each screen to act as the guide for the viewer who had human-like gestures such as moving her lips and moving her hands. To accompany this, I used my own voice rather than an automated voice that reflects the voice principle. Additional principles that were used were the contiguity principle by adding arrows to connect the text to the visuals, and the modality effect by using narration instead of lengthy text. The Coherence principle was also present by limiting the amount of text, graphics, and sound so that nothing was competing with each other for processing space.
