There are two ways, you can add a button using Xcode's Interface Builder or you can add a button programmatically using Objective-C code. These same techniques apply to Swift as well.
To add a button via the Interface Builder open the side bar on the right side of Xcode and switch to the Attributes Inspector (looks like a slider icon). At the bottom of the panel you'll see a Cube icon, click on it.
Open your Main.Storyboard file (left panel in Xcode).
Find the UIButton (Button) in the list and left-click and drag it to the canvas. Now you are ready to customize it.
