The Oracle EMPTY_BLOB function is used to initialise a LOB column to an empty value.
You can use it in an INSERT statement, an UPDATE statement, or with a variable in PL/SQL.
The syntax of the EMPTY_BLOB function is:
EMPTY_BLOB
That’s it - no parameters.
Why would you set a BLOB value to empty?
It means you have initialised it but not given it a value. It’s good to know this function exists if you ever need to use it.
