Easy Redmi Note 8 Unlock Bootloader Tutorial

If you want to unlock the bootloader of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, 8T, or 8 Pro then this video is all you need. I walk you through the entire process from start to finish. You will need a Mi account, an active SIM card (with a mobile data plan), and the official tool from Xiaomi.

Xiaomi has been pretty nice about its bootloader unlock process for a few years now. They do make us jump through some hoops to get the ball rolling but after a 7-day wait period (for most people) we're free to unlock the bootloader.

To begin, you need to have a Xiaomi Mi account (sign-up page linked above) as well as a SIM card with a mobile data connection. The rest is pretty straight forward though, so let's get started.

Go ahead and log into your Xiaomi Mi account directly on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 itself. You can do that by going into the Settings application and locating the Mi Account section.

With that done, you'll need to enable Developer Mode so that we can enable the OEM Unlock toggle within this menu. This is a security layer to make sure the person who has physical possession of the phone is also the person who can log into the software.

Once enabled, you can boot the phone over into Fastboot Mode to prepare it for the next step.

Which involves using the Xiaomi Mi Unlock tool (download link is at the start of this guide). This needs to be extracted into a folder on a PC so that you can run the miflash_unlock.exe file from within that folder.

You'll need to log into your Mi Account through the unlock tool (the same Mi Account you used on the Redmi Note 8T ). Then you should connect the smartphone to the PC with a USB cable.

The Mi Unlock tool should begin to detect the Redmi Note 8 Pro (because it's already in Fastboot Mode) so that you can proceed. All you have to do now is click the Unlock button and confirm you want to proceed via the pop-up messages.

If you get one of the errors shown in the video, I have suggestions as to why those errors appear (I had multiple failed attempts in the video but show you how to work through them).

2. Open up the Settings application [02:03]
3. Tap the "Mi Account" option and log into your account [02:28]
4. Be sure to enable the Xiaomi "Sync" and "Find Device" features [02:42]
6. Then enable Xiaomi's Developer Mode [ (see tutorial above)
7. Find the new Developer Options menu [03:36]
8. And turn on the "OEM Unlocking" option [04:14]
9. You'll then need to put an active SIM card in the phone (if you don't have one in normally) [04:31]
10. And turn off WiFi while also making sure Mobile Data is working
11. In the Developer Options area, tap the "Mi Unlock Status" option [05:22]
12. So you can tap the "Add Account and Device" button [06:08]
13. Wait and look for the "success" toast message to appear [06:18]
14. Now power off the Redmi Note 8 and boot it into Fastboot Mode [07:12] (see tutorial above)
15. Open up the Mi Unlock program [07:40]
16. And login to your Mi Account [08:08]
17. Connect the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8t to the PC with a USB cable
18. And click the "Unlock" button from within the Mi Unlock tool [09:33]
19. Confirm the two pop-up boxes that appear
20. Wait the designated period of time (168 hours in my case) before using the Mi Unlock Tool again. After the time has passed (again 168 hours as shown in the video) run through the Mi Unlock tool again, except this time we'll get a success message [11:19]
21. We can force the reboot by pressing and holding the Power button [13:17]
