Switching Play Drill | Technical Passing
Develop your players' ability to switch play effectively with this technical football passing animation. A set sequence combines short passes before switching play to a winger making a wide run — with passive pressure, a second ball, and longer direct switches added as progressions.

📋 PRACTICE OVERVIEW:
Set up in a 25x30 yard area with 6 cones as shown — one player on each cone and two on the central cones.
The winger (11) passes to the striker, who sets inside for the winger to receive. The next pass goes across to the opposite winger (7), who takes a touch and switches play. The initial winger (11) drives forward to receive the switch on the run, with the near-side player (4) applying passive pressure. The final pass plays through to the central player, who repeats the sequence from the other side.
🎯 KEY COACHING POINTS:
→ Accurate and well weighted passes to switch play
→ Focus on first touch to beat the passive defender
→ Timing of runs to receive on the move
→ First time switches where available — winger arcs run to receive
→ Avoid collisions when the second ball is added — timing and awareness
📈 PROGRESSIONS:
1. Add a second ball — increases tempo and demands sharper awareness to avoid collisions
2. Longer switches of play — more direct, demanding greater passing weight, accuracy and timing of runs
