This tutorial introduces mechanical efficiency as the ratio of power output over power input. An example where an electric motor is lifting a mass is worked through in which power input is given, as well as some parameters about change in potential energy of the mass. So by finding the work done, we can compare the power output with the power input and calculate the mechanical efficiency of the motor.
