Website Blocker using Python | Python Project | Python Project for Beginners
● Introduction:
In this tutorial, we are going to build a real-time most popular python application known as a website blocker.
This application can be used to block the websites so that the user can not open them during a specific period.
Let's discuss how can we build such an application by using python.
● Objective:
The objective of Python website blocker is to block some certain websites which can distract the user during the specified amount of time.
In this, we will block access to the list of some particular websites during working hours so that the user can only access those websites during free time only.
The working time in this python application is considered from 8 AM to 8 PM. The time period except that time will be considered as free time.
● Process
To block access to a specific website on the computer, we need to configure the host's file.
● What is Hosts File?
The host's file is a local file that was used to map hostnames to IP addresses in the old days. Although the DNS service is used nowadays to map the hostnames to the IP addresses, the host file is still very complex and can be used to configure the mapping of the IP addresses locally.
● Location of the host's file:
The location of the host's file varies from the operating system to operating system.
● Windows: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
● mac and Linux: /etc/hosts
After opening the host's file add the local host's address and the website you want to block at the end of the file.
eg. 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com
Then save the file and open google chrome.
when you are trying to open facebook.com it will show "The site cannot be Reached"
